Hotel Recommendations

Friday, May 28th, 2010

The Daily Mirror in the UK suggested some hotels that could be worth considering if you’re planning a trip to Cyprus:

1. Almyra, Paphos

One of the best-kept secrets in the Mediterranean, this boutique Cyprus hotel aims to help new parents have a great holiday by lending a range of equipment, including baby gyms, changing mats and bottle warmers, all free of charge.

The hotel can also arrange for food and nappies to be waiting in your room. It’s in a bay just outside Paphos and adult guests will find all the comforts of home, including a Toni & Guy hair salon, while the centre of town is only a 10-minute walk away - if you can drag yourself away from the designer sun loungers and infinity pool. The deal: from £78pp per night with Design Hotels (www.designhotels.com).

2. St Raphael Resort, Limassol

There are indoor and outdoor pools and a private beach at this family getaway near the Amathus ruins. There are large gardens, tennis courts and a gym.

The deal: Expedia (www.expedia.co.uk, 0871 226 0808) has seven nights with easyJet flights and B&B for £643pp.

3. Napa Mermaid, Ayia Napa

Freshly glammed up, this hotel near - but not too near - the clubs of Ayia Napa is great for grown-ups who want to mix hedonism with some serious chilling out.

The deal: Thomson (www.thomson.co.uk, 0871 231 5595) has seven nights B&B, including flights and transfers, from £1,090pp.

4. Palm Beach Hotel & Garden Suites, Larnaca

With its palm-filled garden, swimming pools and spa, the Palm Beach is an island favourite.

New Larnaca Bus Tour

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Tourists visiting Larnaca this summer will be able to see all of the sights that the region has to offer on an open-top bus tour.

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) announced that double-decker buses will begin operating routes in the city of Larnaca and the surrounding area in May.

One bus will operate five tours per day, taking passengers to various points of interest, including the historic aqueduct of Kamares, the Hala Soultan mosque in Tekke and a medieval castle.

The second route will take visitors to a number of villages that have benefited from the development of agricultural tourism in recent years, as well as sites of interest such as the Neolithic settlement of Choirokitia and the church of Aggeloktisti in Kiti.

Announcing the new tours, the CTO said: ‘Tourists shall get to know the traditional villages of the region - which have in the past few years greatly developed their agrotourism product - and also get acquainted with the rich history and culture of the Larnaca region.’

New Airport For Cyprus

Monday, February 8th, 2010

If you’re off on holiday to Cyprus this year, the good news is that Larnaca Airport is up and running.

MSN report:

The 100,000 square metre (1.1 million square foot) high-tech terminal is four times larger than its predecessor, just a couple of kilometres away on the island’s south coast.

The old terminal had originally been built as a makeshift facility in February 1975 after the island’s only airport, in the capital Nicosia, got caught up in no-man’s land following the Turkish invasion eight months earlier.

Larnaca airport now has double the capacity to handle passenger traffic of up to 7.5 million people annually with a provision to extend this to nearly 10 million when the need arises.

Key features include 67 check-in counters, 16 air bridges, departure and arrivals situated on different levels and parking for 2,650 vehicles.

It took three years to build at a cost 656 million euros (973 million dollars) in what is one the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Cyprus.

Officials hope the new airport will also attract foreign investment to Cyprus.

Flight operations from the new airport will begin on Tuesday, with Cyprus Airways and easyjet flights only and become fully operational from November 17. To read the full article click here
